OMG Chalkboard Paint!!

WHO KNEW how much fun Chalkboard paint could be?? And yes..I said Chalkboard paint! This awesome stuff is painted on just like normal paint and then you can write all over it with chalk and it just erases like on a chalkboard!!

You can make it any of those colors too...pretty cool! Especially for kids!!

So of course because I am still a kid at heart and because I have kids, I had to just buy it and then I'd figure out where I wanted to paint it. As it turns out I ended up painting just the outside of my kitchen so that it wasn't hidden away in a room but in a common area where everyone could partake of its greatness! And as I could have guessed, the very first day it turned into a sports trash talking platform for my husband and all of his friends. haha. And I know my daughter will Love it when she's old enough to figure it out. :-) I'm just glad that everyone will be able to enjoy it!

Our Chalkboard Paint wall at home! :-)

Some people have done some really cool stuff with this Chalkboard paint....and just to think there's also Magnetic Paint!!! ....uh oh....

My Concealed Carry Class...uh oh! haha

To carry a gun or not to carry a gun...that is the question! Hey..I'm not sayin' I'm packin and I'm not sayin' I'm not, but if I was, I need to know all of the rules and rigors of how to and when it's ok.

So, I decided that I should take the CC class..and let me tell ya...8 hours straight for 2 days is like death for a person like me. lol. I'm sitting there thinking of when I can eat, where can I get my next cup of coffee and scanning the room and trying to figure out all these people around me.. it's a rough life.

But all in all I am happy I did it. Because now I feel that I have the know-how to protect my family if ever needed (not only do they teach about guns..but also general self defense and signs for weirdos..)! I really enjoyed it and knowing that the class was taught by a VERY knowledgable person helped even more.

So don't mess with this Chicka because I'm a tough cookie!....

Turquoise Makes Everything Better!!

I Love Turquoise!! :-)

Whether it's turquoise jewelry or accessories that are the color turquoise I'm in heaven! I think it the new black..haha. Being from New Mexico I am submersed in a culture that loves turquoise jewelry, but suprisingly I see few of my peers wearing it. It seems to be more my mom and dads generation, which is Great for me because it's passed on to me.

My advice: pair one thing turquoise with neutral colors and it really makes your outfit POP! Today I wore a simple black and white polka-dot dress with a chunky turquoise necklace and a black purse. It was just enough color to really make my outfit schnazzzzzzy! :-)

Look at Eva Mendez rockin' that Awesome turquoise necklace!!

Other good ideas: a turquoise or teal purse, shoes, earrings or even some teal eyeshadow to really make your eyes pop. Pair ONE colored accessory with your neutral outfit and you're done!

Find some great buys of solid color turquoise or teal and then try some of these pairing ideas and I promise you'll be turning some heads in no time with your Turquoise fashion! :-) Happy hunting!

Five Ways To Update Your Home Without Breaking the Bank

Working for a realtor you hear all kinds of reasons why home buyers don't like a home..."The light fixtures are outdated", "The landscaping takes too much maintenance"..etc. So I say if you have some money to do bits of updating here and there then Why not?

For your reading pleasure I bring you...5 WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR HOME!!

1. Change out your lighting fixtures. If you can't afford to do them all..do a few! Pick the most important areas of your home that need to be highlighted and go for it. Switch out that old brass 'candelabra' lookin' thing over your kitchen table for a nice chandelier. Not suprisingly the biggest factor for a woman when buying a home is the kitchen..so if you really gussy it up in there then you might have Mrs. so and so right when she sees that lighting fixture!

2. Paint Paint Paint. Honestly re-painting the inside of your home can really appeal to buyers. It will give it that nice brand new fresh look in every room. And don't just do every room stark white...try some warm neutral colors. They can really make a room feel warm and welcome.

3. Change out your Cabinetry fixtures. Go from big nobs on doors to nice brushed pewter handles. And in your kitchen switch out the old for the new. It really can make a difference.

4. Update your curb appeal. If someone drives by your house are they going to think 'Oooo Nice House', or are they going to wonder how you let it go? You decide. Get a new mailbox if yours looks like it's from the 18th century. Throw on some gloves and pick some weeds. And you can really appeal to the eye with some nice flowers in pots by the front door. Something so simple can make a huge impression on a potential buyer.

and last but not least... 5. De-Clutter...for gosh sakes please De-Clutter. I can't count how many times we've gone to take pictures and the house is so full of junk you can't tell when one room ends and the other begins. By you de-cluttering, you're upping your chances of selling your home sooner and getting a lot more buyers through your doors based off of pictures that are provided by the Realtor.

I hope these 5 updating tips can help you to update your home on a relatively low budget. Many of these are DIY (that's Do It Yourself)!! :-) So I think I'll heed to my own advice and go replace my orange mailbox...yikes!

Good Luck,

Marian

Navy Week at UNM

Navy Band the Destroyers came to UNM and I was excited to be able to film some of their concert in the plaza and meet them! My dad was a Navy Fighter Pilot so naturally I am partial to the swabbies! :-)

Oh the Joys of SOME reality TV!

So, being a mom and getting to stay at home a lot and watching Britain definitely has it's ups and downs. Sometimes she is so needy, which I understand, but sometimes I just want to vacuum..or maybe take a shower??!! haha. Having a baby definitely has rearranged my life, but definitely for the better to say the least! :-)

Let me tell you though, when I'm home and having to tend to her...guess what's on the TV, yeah, that's right, it's the BRAVO channel. haha. In fact I watch it so much that at times I feel like I know all the housewives and Top Chefs personally. lol. I might even be borderline obsessed, but I'm ok with it...and I don't think Britain minds yet. Let's just say I'm trying to get my fix of reality TV right now because before I know it she's going to be screaming to watch Barney and I'm going to want to push bamboo shoots up my fingernails! The giant purple dinosaur just doesn't do it for me, in fact I kind of want to punch him, but I will sacrifice for her...as all you mommies know we do for our kids! It just comes Natural (oooo Good George Strait song)! :)

So...my suggestion for the day...don't knock it til you try it. As much as Nick would hate to say that he's watched reality tv with me...he has and before I know it he's hooked with me!

In fact, it becomes a sort of addiction, so beware..you may get hooked and then think you can make creme brulee out of ingredients from a 7-11. (great challenge on Top Chef). Just sayin...

I covered the Gaza Protest at UNM last year when supporters of Palestine and supporters of Israel clashed on campus and called for the ending of hostilities in the Middle East.
